NAANA HONORS SOPHIA BEYDOUN WITH 2022 ANGEL OF MERCY AWARD; DR IBRAHIM SABLABAN DELIVERS KEYNOTE SPEECH ON "THE PANDEMIC'S EMOTIONAL TOLL ON NURSING" OCTOBR 20, 2022
The National American Arab Nurses Association (NAANA) announces that Sophia Beydoun, MSN, RN, CNEcl, has been named the 2022 Angel of Mercy Award. The Annual Angel of Mercy Banquet will be held on Thursday, October 20th, at 6 p.m., at Byblos Banquets, 7258 Chase Road, Dearborn. 

Our keynote speaker DR. Ibrahim Sablaban, DO, FASAM, Director of Education and Senior Staff Psychiatrist, Henry Ford Hospital Systems, Henry Ford Kingswood Psychiatric Hospital, will discuss the emotional toll that the pandemic has had on nursing.

Detroit, MI, August 18, 2021 – The National American Arab Nurses Association (NAANA) announces that its 10th Annual Angel of Mercy Banquet will be held as a virtual event via Zoom on Thursday, October 21st, at 6 p.m., honoring the 2021 Angel of Mercy Award winner and awarding nursing scholarships.

Our keynote speaker Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, physician, epidemiologist, former city health commissioner, and progressive activist will discuss issues of vaccine compliance and vaccine resistance; getting to herd immunity; the newest resurgence in COVID cases; the United States' readiness to address strains of COVID and how we forestall further spread; and fatigue and mental health of nurses, physicians and other healthcare workers and how to address this dilemma.

Our keynote speaker Dr. Allison Weinmann, MBBS, FRACP, is Henry Ford Health System Medical Director Antimicrobial Stewardship, Office of Clinical Quality and Safety; Clinical Associate Professor, Internal Medicine, Wayne State University; and Senior Staff, Division of Infectious Diseases, Henry Ford Medical Group, and Chair of the Henry Ford Health System Immunization Committee will discuss the strides currently underway to develop a COVID-19 vaccine and talk about the impact of the pandemic on the healthcare community.

NAANA HONORS MOE RUSTOM WITH 2019 ANGEL OF MERCY AWARD; JUDGE LINDA DAVIS DELIVERS KEYNOTE SPEECH ON "OPIOID EPIDEMIC" OCTOBER 24, 2019

Detroit, MI, September 4, 2019 – The National American Arab Nurses Association (NAANA) announces that Moe Rustom, MSA, RN, FACHE, director of Clinical Interpretation and Translation Services for Beaumont Health, has been named the 2019 Angel of Mercy Award for founding the clinical language access program at Beaumont – Dearborn and overseeing its implementation at Beaumont’s eight hospitals, 174 health centers. Additionally, NAANA is proud to announce that former Macomb County Judge Linda Davis, co-founder and executive director of Families Against Narcotics (FAN), will keynote the Angel of Mercy Award Banquet about the opioid epidemic in Michigan. Detroit, MI, SEPTEMBER 27, 2018 – The National American Arab Nurses Association (NAANA) announces that Karimah Zuhdi Tarazi, RN, BS has been named the 2018 Angel of Mercy Award for her lifelong dedication to nursing in her native Palestine and beyond. The Angel of Mercy Award Banquet will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 6 p.m. at Byblos Banquets, 7258 Chase Road, Dearborn. Renee Ahee, president of NAANA, said, "Karimah Zuhdi Tarazi has taken her nursing career beyond the walls of healthcare institutions and national borders into four continents and cyberspace to reach patients and to encourage a new generation of nurses to be creative in how they apply their profession. ANGEL OF MERCY AWARD BANQUET SET FOR OCTOBER 29, 2015

[Detroit, MI] APRIL 22, 2015 – The National American Arab Nurses Association (NAANA) will hold its fourth Angel of Mercy Awards Banquet at Byblos Banquets, 7258 Chase Road in Dearborn on Thursday, October 29, 2015, at 5:30 p.m.

Rose Khalifa, founder and president of NAANA, said, “The contributions of nurses often go without public acknowledgement. We know that there are nurses who positively impact the health and well-being of the Arab American community daily, whether they are Arab American themselves or unselfishly serve the community’s needs for care. The board of NAANA believes that we can accomplish the dual purpose of elevating these nurses as well as showcasing nursing as a viable career choice for Arab Americans.”

NAANA named this special recognition of Arab American nurses the Angel of Mercy Award because the Arabic phrase for nurse translates to “angel of mercy.” Nominations for the Angel of Mercy awards are being accepted through June 30 at www.n-aana.org.

Another highlight of the annual banquet is the scholarship awards. Arab American nursing students can apply to receive cash awards for tuition or books if they are attending an accredited nursing school. The deadline for scholarship applications is also June 30. Students can find the application and requirements at www.n-aana.org.
